9:45 am Closing the Gaps and Making Connections – Working Towards a Truly Statewide Trail System

Call them rail-trails, shared paths, community trails or long-distance trails.  In Washington we’re fortunate to have them all around the state.  From paved city and county multi-use trails linking neighborhoods and communities to State Park’s system of long-distance rail-trails crossing the entire state.  Maybe we’re closer than we think when it comes to creating a truly interconnected state-wide trail system.  This audience involvement oriented panel will focus on the tools needed to close gaps and make connections between both the trails themselves and trail managers.  We’ll provide updates on Washington’s role as part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Great American Trail and explore ways to make the connections to create additional cross-state trail routes.  Bring your ideas and your knowledge of the trails in your community as we learn about existing tools we can use to make these important connections.
